Un-Chicken Tofu

Try this seasoned tofu as a substitute for chicken or turkey in any recipe. It's perfect in my Turkey Tetrazzini, Creamy Tofu Casserole, or Easy Pasta Salad.


Tofu can be seasoned to taste like almost anything. Here it is seasoned to create a poultry-like flavor.
Seasoned Un-Chicken Tofu

Un-Chicken Tofu

1 14-16 oz block SUPER FIRM Tofu

2 tablespoons low-sodium Tamari or soy sauce

2 teaspoons liquid smoke

1 1/2 teaspoons poultry seasoning


It is important to use super firm tofu in this recipe. Trader Joe's sells a high-protein super firm variety and Hodo brand firm tofu also works very well. Hodo is sold at Whole Foods, Target, Publix and many other nationwide grocery chains and natural grocers. If you cannot find a high protein super firm tofu, you can press extra firm tofu for at least an hour to get a similar texture. This step is important so that the tofu will absorb the seasoning.


Shred (or cube) the tofu as shown in the photo below. Toss the shredded or cubed tofu in a bowl with all other ingredients. You can allow it to marinate for a little while or use it right away. Use in your favorite recipe in place of chicken or turkey. Try it in my Turkey Tetrazzini!



Super firm tofu when shredded and seasoned can be used in any recipe calling for cut up chicken or turkey.
